It's               an               uneasy               thought               to               think               that               one-day               we               might               find               ourselves               in               or               have               to               place               a               loved               one               in               a               Nursing               Home               Facility.

When               visiting               Nursing               Homes               there               always               seems               to               be               a               lingering               smell               of               bodily               fluids,               medications,               and               food               odors               all               mixed               up.

If               you               don't               like               baby               smells               then               Nursing               Home               smells               can               be               quite               horrific.

Despite               the               gloom               and               doom               connected               with               such               facilities               they               do               have               their               good               points.

If               it               comes               time               to               place               yourself               or               a               loved               one               in               a               home               would               you               know               how               to               go               about               it?

First               decide               if               its               necessary               for               you               or               a               loved               one               to               enter               the               nursing               home               stage               of               life.

Look               for               answers               to               these               questions:
               Is               cooking               without               help               a               problem?
               Do               you               need               assistance               in               performing               simply               tasks               such               as               brushing               your               teeth               or               going               to               the               bathroom?
               Is               there               a               friend               or               member               of               your               family               willing               to               make               daily               visits,               assist               with               medication,               shop               and               prepare               meals,               and               help               you               with               personal               hygiene?
               Do               you               need               a               temporary               place               to               stay               if               surgery               is               in               the               future?
               Some               people               are               entirely               capable               of               living               on               their               own,               but               due               to               surgery               cannot               function               without               help               until               they               are               healed.

They               might               not               have               anyone               who               can               look               after               them               in               their               time               of               need               so               they               turn               to               the               refuge               of               a               Nursing               Home               temporarily               until               they               are               fully               recovered               and               can               return               home.

Young               people               as               well               as               the               elderly               can               use               Nursing               Homes               this               way.
               If               you               want               to               delay               Nursing               Home               Care               you               might               be               able               to               get               by               hiring               a               Home               Health               Care               Aide.

"Girling"               is               a               place               that               hires               out               this               type               of               Aide.

They               come               by               your               home               certain               days               of               the               week               and               will               perform               tasks               such               as               washing               your               hair,               giving               you               a               bath,               checking               blood               pressure,               and               giving               medication.
               Nursing               Homes               don't               all               offer               the               same               type               of               care.

There               are               three               versions               of               Nursing               Homes               each               with               different               care               levels.

At               the               top,               serving               the               more               functional               who               require               less               care,               is               Custodial-Care               Facilities.

People               more               independent               who               need               aid               rising               from               a               chair               or               bed,               getting               in               and               out               of               showers               or               bathtubs,               and               an               arm               to               hold               onto               while               walking               for               stabilization               is               the               typical               day               to               day               operation               of               a               Custodial-Care               Facility.
               In               the               middle               are               Intermediate-Care               Nursing               Homes.

People               who               need               help               in               all               their               daily               activities               from               meal               time               to               bath               time,               exercise               to               medication,               personal               hygiene               to               entertainment-watching               television               are               part               of               this               establishment.
               At               the               bottom,               those               who               require               the               most               care               of               all,               reside               in               Skilled-Care               Facilities.

Bedridden               souls               who               need               bedpans               or               catheters               can               be               found               here.

Along               with               those               who               need               to               be               fed               through               tubes               or               intravenously               fed               medicine               and               those               who               are               hooked               up               to               respiratory               machines.
               All               three               facilities               have               to               be               state               licensed               and               all               facilities               except               the               Custodial-Care               should               have               a               Licensed               Nurse               on               hand.
