Elderly               seniors               might               be               frail               and               require               a               minimal               amount               of               medical               care.

Other               seniors               who               live               alone,               after               the               death               of               their               spouse,               might               need               a               bit               more               assistance.

Many               elderly               seniors,               with               severe               arthritis,               have               a               limited               range               of               motion               and               are               unable               to               handle               many               of               the               household               chores.

If               they               are               to               remain               independent,               they               need               help               to               continue               to               stay               in               the               house               they               lived               in               for               most               of               their               married               life.
               Their               options               are               limited.

They               could               sell               their               house               and               move               to               a               senior               residence.

However,               this               would               entail               leaving               behind               lifetime               friendships               and               familiar               surroundings.

What               about               their               pets?

Many               senior               housings               do               not               allow               animals               on               the               premises.

How               could               a               senior               be               expected               to               part               from               their               dog               or               cat               who               is               almost               as               old               as               they               are?

There               could               be               a               solution               for               those               seniors               to               help               them               to               continue               living               at               home.
I               looked               at               a               Senior               Residence               a               few               years               ago               with               my               daughter.

She               lives               in               Arizona               and               was               here               for               a               visit.

The               main               building               was               lovely.

It               was               four               stories               high,               and               it               was               surrounded               by               trees,               flowers               and               freshly               cut               grass.

It               looked               like               a               friendly               place               to               live               in.

They               had               recreational               facilities,               a               community               dining               room               and               groups               to               join.

The               thought               of               moving               peaked               my               interest               and               my               daughter               and               I               paid               the               senior               residence               a               visit.
We               walked               through               the               door,               and               on               the               left               was               a               reception               desk.

A               cheery               receptionist               welcomed               us.

I               thought               that               this               was               getting               better               with               each               step               I               took,               and               it               looked               like               a               nice               friendly               place               to               live.
I               walked               a               few               more               steps               and               noticed               elderly               seniors               with               walkers.

Some               were               in               wheel               chairs.

They               were               friendly               and               outgoing,               but               it               felt               like               the               inside               of               a               hospital               or               a               nursing               home.

I               was               not               quite               ready               for               this               yet.

I               am               too               active,               and               I               was               told               that               there               were               no               pets               allowed.

That               put               a               halt               to               the               visit.

I               would               never               leave               my               cat               'Beauty'               behind.

As               far               as               I               was               concerned               the               visit               ended               the               moment               she               told               me               that               there               were               no               pets               allowed.
My               daughter               started               to               usher               me               over.

The               receptionist               was               ready               to               show               me               the               apartments.

I               stood               there,               glued               to               the               spot,               and               thanked               her.

I               explained               that               I               could               not               leave               my               cat.

My               daughter               gave               me               that               'questioning'               look,               hesitated               for               a               moment               and               then               we               left.
There               are               other               options               for               seniors               who               need               a               minimal               amount               of               help               that               would               allow               them               to               remain               in               their               own               homes               and               keep               their               loving               pets               their               life               time               friends               and               remain               in               familiar               surroundings.
Senior               care               is               available               in               many               ways.
